The Cathedral with a Medieval Architecture

Architect Andrea Bruno
The Cathedral with a Medieval Architecture
The challenge
Restore the Bagrati cathedral respecting both the desire of the Georgian Orthodox Church, which wanted to rebuild the cathedral from scratch, and UNESCO, which agreed to the restoration, as long as the ruins of the cathedral remained as in its original condition.
This Cathedral represents an important religious symbol, a masterpiece of medieval architecture of the eleventh century, UNESCO heritage.
It proved strategic to go to the site and see the ruins together with the architect Andrea Bruno, who commissioned the work, so as to determine which works would be necessary for this restoration and the most suitable finishes to use.
With the adoption of the Touch and Peltrox finishes combined with glass, the Architect Professor Andrea Bruno has succeeded in the difficult task of satisfying both UNESCO and the Orthodox Church, managing to blend modern furnishing solutions perfectly with the composure of the medieval architecture.
It was particularly complex to clad vaults, floors, walls, columns, lofts, and the elevator shaft structure that demanded great design and production activity to give life to metal.
The role of Peltrox was fundamental in bringing the metal together with the original stone, thus completing the building that consisted mostly in ruins.
Working with the architect Bruno was an unforgettable experience, a great professional, a great man.
The project was entrusted to the architect Andrea Bruno, one of the most illustrious experts in the architectural restoration of historical sites, with the aim of restoring the cathedral while preserving its architectural canons.
The result
An extraordinary work, which allowed the cathedral to be restored, maintaining the original medieval stylistic aspects, combining the past with the present giving charm and magnificence.
